Zero Waste / Bulk Buy

Zero Waste

We introduced the zero waste bulk buy section to the Deli with a hope that we can provide a place for people to shop knowing their impact on the environment is as minimal as practically possible. We buy our food products in bulk quantities, in either reusable, recyclable or returnable packaging.

We know our efforts will not solve all the issues around food waste and packaging but we do feel it's a good place for all of us to start.

We currently offer most pulses, grains, herbs, spices, nuts and dried food - shopping list can be found here. Please let us know if there is something specific you are looking for, and we will do our best to source it for you.

Why is zero waste important?
-          It is estimated we throw away around 2.5billion coffee cups a year. That's a staggering 7million a day. This can be avoided by refusing single use and swapping everyday items for your own reusable.

-          Around 40% of plastic is used in packaging and the UK generates around 2.4 million tonnes per year of packaging waste. Of this, around 1.7 million tonnes is from households.

-          Between 5-13million tonnes of plastic leaks into the world's oceans each year, ingested by fish, and then by you. It is estimated by 2050 the ocean will contain more plastic by weight than fish.

-          It is estimated that around 10 million tonnes of food waste is generated every year, 70% of which was intended to be consumed by people. This has a value of over £20 billion and is associated with more than 25 million tonnes of GHG emissions
